New Leaders Take Over Institute Of Global Facilities Management

The Institute of Global Facilities Management in a reinvigorated move to reposition the Institute for effective service delivery in the facilities management industry, Thursday 8th February welcomed on board another set of Council Members and management team.

Speaking with Newsmen immediately after the General Meeting that birthed the new set of leaders, the new Chairman/President of the Institute, Paul Abbey expressed optimism that the new helmsmen were poised to steering the ship of the Institute to a new level that would glaringly meet the expectations of the all the stakeholders in the Institute, the industry and the general public.

He stated: “There are miles to cover in the Industry, the challenges are obviously enormous, but once the vision is clear, the path to getting to the desired destination will become clearer as the days go by. And with the clarity of vision comes the commensurate passion for the pursuit of it.

We are ready to push the message and practice of facilities management on all frontiers and by the grace of God, we will attain our set goal.”

Mr. Abbey also stressed the need to expedite action on the proposed Bill at the National Assembly which is being promoted by the Institute and which aims to professionalize and regulate the facilities management practice in Nigeria. According to the new Chairman/President, “One of the key areas that need urgent attention is the Chartered Institute for Facilities Manager, Nigeria Bill that has gone past Public Hearing at the Senate. We will have to ensure that the Bill is passed into Law in good time; not minding the fact that so many Federal Lawmakers will be so preoccupied with their reelection bids.”

It can be recalled the Chartered Institute for Facilities Managers Bill, 2015, being jointly promoted by the Institute of Global Facilities Management (IGFM) and the International Facilities Management Association (IFMA) went through Public Hearing in October 2017 at the Red Chamber of the National Assembly and ready to go through Third Reading any moment from now.

Meanwhile the change of baton of leadership at the Institute was necessitated by the expiration of the tenure of the former set of leaders who had served out their three-year term this year having been in office since 2015.

Other newly elected management team members include: Attu Naji Raphael, 1st Vice-Chairman/President and Mr. Lambert Ekewuba, 2nd Vice-Chairman/ President.
The following are the current Council Members of the Institute:  Paul Abbey, Attu Naji Raphael, Chris Joseph, Odukoya David, Madam Ayoola, Omachi Jonah, Professor Ezekiel, Millicent Ugo, Engr (Dr) Ameh Opaluwa and Innocent Obande.
Moreover, Arch. Olupitan Daniels is now the new Registrar having previously served in the capacity of  Deputy Registrar.
