Gov Dickson Calls on Investors to Take Advantage of New Yenagoa City

.... Undertakes First Training Session at New Golf Course

In a bid to popularize the game of golf in the State, Governor Henry Seriake Dickson, Thursday had his first training session at the Yenagoa Golf Course at the Tourism Island, located at the new Yenagoa City.

A press statement by the Governor's Chief Press Secretary,  Francis Ottah Agbo noted that, Dickson, who was guided on his first foray into the game by first Military Governor of old Rivers State and Chairman of the Bayelsa State Traditional Rulers Council, King Alfred Diete-Spiff and his coach, Celina James took a number of practice swings from the tee, before hitting his first ball into the fairway, before maneuvering a bunker close to the green.

At the green, he also tried a couple of potting shots, hitting the pin a number of times to the applause of the teeming supporters and lovers of the game.

Speaking to Government House correspondents shortly after the practice session, Governor Dickson expressed his gratitude to King Diete-Spiff for finding time to take him on his first lessons on the golf course, noting that, he was one of the motivational and inspirational factors to the development of the golf course and the estate. 

He said the Yenagoa Golf Course and estate is going to be one of the best in the country, stressing that, about 300 high end plots are available for interested members of the public to acquire for development.

The Governor used the occasion to renew his call on investors to take advantage of the numerous potentials of the state, especially in the newly proposed Yenagoa City and urged individuals that are interested in leisure and vacation homes to avail themselves of the opportunity.

Hon. Dickson further explained that, the state government embarked on the project not only to make the sport popular in the state, but to also encourage the youths  to channel their energies to sporting activities like golf, polo among others.

He also announced plans by the state to host the first ever all Ijaw cultural carnival, pointing out that, adequate investments have been made at ensuring the safety of lives and property, as CCTV cameras have been deployed to different parts of the state, especially the Yenagoa City area.

"The Golf Course Estate is clearly going to be one of the best in this country, there is already available three hundred high end plots and they are open to the public,  Bayelsans and investors who are interested in having leisure or vacation homes in Yenagoa"

"When this facility is ready, a lot of our young people will be encouraged to take golfing lessons and also lessons in polo so that we can expand the frontiers not just in tourism but also in sports development"

"Like I always say, the future of Bayelsa state is tourism, the future of this state is beyond oil and gas. Our future lies in agriculture, building industrial parks, utilizing our gas resources to provide adequate power to attract manufacturers"

The Amayanabo of Twon-Brass, King Alfred Diete-Spiff, who had earlier taken the governor through his first Golf lessons, expressed satisfaction with his enthusiasm and quick grasp of the technicalities of the game, describing the governor as an excellent student and a natural golfer.
