REVEALED: How APC Is Drumming For War In Bayelsa Through Planned Protest

A member of the APC in Southern Ijaw LGA of Bayelsa State, Independent Famgbei has raised his disapproval over APC planned protest, aimed at causing instability and unrest in the Bayelsa State.

In a statement he made available to the media on Tuesday in Bayelsa State, Independent Famgbei further said that APC Youths are already sounding drums of war and the good and peace loving people of Bayelsa are becoming apprehensive.

Excerpt is the full text of the statement;

I am told of a planned protest by my party and i must express my disapproval.
Reports reaching me is that the planned protest is actually a plot to cause instability and unrest in the state.

The recent activities of my party supporters in the state reveals that the intentions of these young people is not to have a peaceful protest but an opportunity to revenge, destroy houses and properties belonging to members of the other party in the state, disrupt business activities, loot stores and shops, harass their owners and all those going about their lawful businesses, interrupt school activities and shot down every means of transportation in and out of the state.

They have purposed to go to any length to distort the peace Bayelsans have enjoyed since the inauguration of Senator Douye Diri and his deputy.

Though a member of APC Bayelsa, I must state here that supporters of my party have shown times without number that they are violence prone and must therefore be stopped.

Bayelsans including my humble self have long accepted the outcome of the elections and normalcy has since been restored until the announcement of this planed protest.

These youths are already sounding drums of war and the good and peace loving people of Bayelsa are becoming apprehensive.

I therefore use this opportunity to call on the security agents to look deeper as their custom is to see the true intent of the APC Bayelsa supporters and avert the impending episode of violence.

This is also a call on the APC leadership both at the national and state level to behave responsibly and call their supporters to order.

Bayelsa is peaceful and the people prefer it so. I expect that my party leaders should follow the peaceful path and seek redress at the appropriate quarters and not the way of violence.

I remain Independent Famgbei, APC member, Southern Ijaw LGA.

Dickson Commissions Bayelsa Polo Club

Bayelsa State Governor, Hon. Henry Seriake Dickson on Monday 10th February 2020, commissioned the Bayelsa Polo Club. This is coming after the commissioning of the Bayelsa golf course some weeks ago. Historically, the idea of constructing a polo club in Bayelsa was initiated by HRM, Alfred Diette Spiff who incidentally as a young naval officer, brought the game to Rivers State. This marks the beginning of polo in the heartland of the Ijaw nation.

The club is situated in the New Yenagoa City, one of the fastest growing regions in the state.

The Vice-President of the club, Mr. Tupele Difa who is also a polo player commended the Bayelsa State governor, Hon Henry Seriake Dickson for allowing Bayelsa to be planted in the map as one state that can host a polo tournament. He said the turf is promising and the facilities are about the best in the country.

Governor Dickson while cutting the tape commended the organizers of the polo tournament stressing that it was always his dream to host tournaments in the state.

‘Every project we have embarked on these past eight years, every investment we have made in education, health, infrastructure and human capital development was primarily to open Bayelsa to the world and attract the world to Bayelsa.’

‘We just commissioned our International Airport and now the polo club and there are many more projects to commission’.

‘Nigeria left Bayelsa behind and that’s why I was in a hurry to catch up. Those who don’t understand our passion have chosen to read political meaning to our humble efforts.’

With this the governor calls on all polo players and sponsors of the game to add Bayelsa to their list of destination.

‘Bayelsa is ready to accommodate you, we are peaceful, warm and Accommodating.’

The event ended with a match between Team Bayelsa and Team Rivers where Team Bayelsa won by 5 to 1. The governor was also presented a souvenir honouring him as the founder and Grand Patron of the Bayelsa Polo club

Dickson Commissions Bayelsa State International Airport

……Named 2.5km Road After Late Chief D.S.P Alamieyeseigha

The Bayelsa State International Airport, Wilberforce Island, under the chairmanship of HRM, King Alfred Diette Spiff was unveiled on Monday, 10th February, 2020 by the governor of Bayelsa State, Hon. Henry Seriake Dickson.

The governor in his remark expressed deep gratitude to God to have given the courage to initiate the gigantic and life transforming project. He also expressed gratitude to his team for their support in the past eight years and the solidarity he has enjoyed from all strata of leadership in the state.

In his words, ‘Early last year, we witnessed the landing of two flights on this same airport and a few days ago, the airforce equally landed, marking the commencement of their operations at the airport. This commissioning is historic and will amongst other benefits, outlive us all and continue to serve the people of Bayelsa State’.

The governor used the opportunity to give credit to late Chief DSP Alamieyeseigha whose government conceptualized what has come to fruition today.

Dickson who throughout his government has upheld and continued to honor all Ijaw leaders both living and dead used the occasion to name the Airport Road which was equally commissioned after the Late Chief DSP Alamieyeseigha, first civilian governor of Bayelsa State.

‘Today, we are changing the narrative that there’s not just an airstrip in Bayelsa, the heart of Ijaw land but an International Airport. This project will continue to take our people to the world and bring the world to our people. We as a people have been neglected for too long and we are far behind others even our closest neighbours. So when we talk about building schools, hospitals and airports, some cant understand that our people have been left behind and urgently need to catch up.’

‘It took a year and six months to sandfill this place because our terrain is treacherous. Everything that is seen in the airport, was put together by the Bayelsa State Government. There is no single gain of Federal Government sand in this airport. The Bayelsa State Government built this airport from start to finish.

The initial agreement was for the Federal Government to construct it but at the pace they were going, it would have stalled so it was agreed that the Federal Government construct and equip the terminal building while the state government, the runway. But there was a change in government in 2015 and the agreement was not observed so we took it upon ourselves to embark on the project which we are commissioning today.

Governor Dickson used the opportunity to call on the Federal Government to be alive to their responsibility and build the terminal building that was agreed upon as there was still room for a bigger one.

‘The landing equipments are of international standard as we spared no effort nor resource in securing the best because our people deserve it.’

‘For the records, this airport has never been flooded as critics have claimed in the past. The strategic location of the airport is such that it opens up directly to the gulf of Guinea.’

The governor used the opportunity again to call on the Federal Government and the authorities to expedite the required approvals for commercial operations to commense.

He also called on Bayelsans who understand clearly the treacherous terrain Bayelsa has but feign ignorance for political reasons should desist from such and rather support the development of our state instead of engaging in the peddling of uninformed speculations.

The governor also stated that his government is open to any form of scrutiny about the airport as the books are open.

‘We cannot solve all the problems but I and my team came, seen and have done our best. We leave the rest for prosterity to judge.’

‘It is on this note, I officially unveil the Bayelsa International Airport for the use of Bayelsans, Ijaw people and the entire nation, to the glory of God almighty.’

The event was attended by Royal fathers from Ijaw speaking communities and dignitaries from across the State.
