...Reaffirms Call For A Restructured Nigeria.
Bayelsa State Governor, Honourable Henry Seriake Dickson, along with former Governor of Delta State, Chief James Ibori, was on Saturday conferred with the Chieftaincy title of Izon-Okutei, meaning Rock of the Ijaw Nation, by the Pere of Kabowei Kingdom, HRM King Peremobowei Shedrack-Erebulu, Aduo the 3rd in Patani, Delta state.
Speaking at his palace during the well-attended ceremony, King Peremobowei Shedrack-Erebulu said Governor Dickson was found worthy of the chietaincy title for putting the interest of the Ijaw Nation first and for making Bayelsa home for all Ijaw people.
According to a press statement signed by Governor Dickson's Chief Press Secretary, Mr. Francis Ottah Agbo, the Pere expressed appreciation to Governor Dickson for appointing sons and daughters of the kingdom into various positions of authority in his state and urged him to continue to champion the cause of the people, while assuring him of total support of his kingdom.
The Royal father also commended Chief James Ibori and the Delta State Governor, Senator Ifeanyi Okowa for their developmental efforts, adding that, the people are very appreciative and proud of them.
In his remarks, Governor Dickson, who expressed appreciation to King Shedrack-Erebulu, Chiefs and people of Kabowei Kingdom for the honour done him, restated his total commitment to the clamour for a fair, equitable and restructured Nigeria that, would be beneficial to all sections of the country.
Governor Dickson also thanked the monarch for honouring former Governor of Delta State, Chief James Ibori with a chietaincy title, in view of his immense contributions to the struggle for resource control alongside former Governor of Bayelsa State, late Chief DSP Alamieyeseigha.
He commended Governor Ifeanyi Okowa for his show of love for the Ijaw people and developmental strides in the state, especially in Patani and other Ijaw areas, promising to maintain the good relationship with the governor, the Government and the people of state in general.
Chief Ibori assured that, they would not let the people of both states and the entire region down and expressed gratitude to the monarch for finding them worthy of recognition.
Chief Ibori, who aligned himself with Governor Dickson's call for a restructured and equitable country, urged political leaders, irrespective of party affiliation to collectively champion the course, noting that, any referendum must be in the interest of the region.
He commended Governor Dickson's achievements in the past six years, and appealed to the people to remain peaceful, as leaders of the region fight their cause, while also praying for wisdom for the royal father, as he leads his people.
Governor Ifeanyi Okowa in his speech, eulogised King Peremobowei Shedrack-Erebulu for taking the right step by honouring both men, whom he described as the right choice due to their courage and boldness in clamouring for what is right and just for the people of the Niger Delta.
The ceremony was witnessed by Governor Ifeanyi Okowa of Delta State, the Deputy Governors and Speakers of Bayelsa and Delta states, members of the National Assembly, women, youths and social cultural groups from both states and etc .
