When I heard about the kidnap of the Central Bank
Governor's wife, Mrs. Margaret Emefiele from a reliable source on Friday
morning around 7am, what came to my mind was the Inspector General of Police,
IGP Ibrahim Idris. He is up to the task to rescue Mrs. Emefiele!
It will be recalled that a group of
heavily armed kidnappers on Thursday abducted Mrs. Margaret Emefiele, the wife
of Central Bank Nigeria Governor, Godwin Emefiele.
Mrs. Emefiele was kidnapped in
Ugoneki, a few miles from Benin City, Edo State.
On Wednesday, 22nd of June, 2016, the
Inspector General of Police, Ibrahim Idris, had told Nigerians that it will be
against work ethics henceforth for any Police Commander at any Command level to
treat complaints with levity, and complaint received from members of the public
must be treated within shorted possible time to the satisfaction of the
complainant; which is in line with one of the principles of democratic policing
which states that a democratic police institution must be responsive to the
yearnings of the community.
When the Inspector General of
Police received the news of the kidnapped, he swung into action and within 24
hours of her abduction, Mrs. Margaret Emefiele other persons kidnapped were
released by their abductors without paying any ransom.
This was made possible by a massive
police operation coordinated by the IGP Special Intelligence Monitoring Team
and I must commend the IGP Ibrahim Idris, for this rapid action.
I remembered in August, 2016 Rivers
State to be precise, the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Ibrahim Idris has
warned criminals, especially kidnappers in the country never to think Nigeria
is lawless. He made statement when the IGP’s Intelligent Response Team arrested
a notorious kidnapping gang known to have been terrorizing law-abiding citizens
in Rivers State and its environs.
The Inspector-General of Police
said the Nigeria Police Force has the technical and intelligence capacity and
capability to reduce the perceived rise in crime, especially kidnapping, armed
robbery, cultism and other forms of violent crime.
The appointment of IGP Ibrahim Idris
is timely under this administration as he is determined to join President Buhari
in ensuring that the Nigeria Police embraced the Change Agenda which is already
boosting the capacity of the Police to effectively and efficiently investigate
and prosecute crime within the organization.
I am urging Nigerians to support
the Changed Nigeria Police to always inform them when they perceived any act of
criminality and avail necessary credible information.
Finally, I am calling on every
citizen of Nigeria to support and cooperate with the Police to make our country
safer and more united. As we are all aware, the security of our communities is
the responsibility of all of us.
Change has begun in the Nigeria
Police and I must say kudos to Inspector General of Police; IGP Ibrahim Kpotun
Idris, NPM mni!
